CKDNZ
Our founder Chelsey Mathieson is a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKDNZ) and a Platinum member of the Designers of NKBA with many years of industry experience, she brings a unique approach and unrivalled expertise to every design project.
Chelsey is a multi-award-winning kitchen and spatial designer with more than 16 years in the industry. Her work is defined by a curiosity to explore the unexpected. It’s refined and thoughtful, combined with a deep understanding of the unique traits that make a house a home.
Both her father and brother are cabinetmakers, and this family history is what inspired Chelsey to become a kitchen designer. Before launching Niche Design Co in 2018, she worked for manufacturers which has instilled her practical approach to kitchen and spatial design.
She loves making a real difference for her clients, and to design extraordinary spaces that are not only highly functional but that also perfectly fit her clients’ lifestyle and personalities. For Chelsey, it’s all about attention to detail. She works closely with clients from the architectural concept stage right through to completion – many clients become great friends.
Alexandra Riddell
Diploma Kitchen Design
Alex joined us in August 2021 and completed her Diploma in Kitchen Design in May ’22 and is also a Gold member of the Designers of NKBA. With her strong connection to European architecture and design, she brings a unique look and feel to our projects. Alex has loved interior design since she was little. She fondly remembers helping her mother with home renovation projects and reading every interior design magazine she could find.
Originally from France, Alex also lived in London for seven years where she worked in real estate and presented some incredible luxury homes. This further strengthened her love for shape, space, and colour which is why she chose a career in kitchen design when she came to NZ in 2015.
Her incredible talent was recognised when Alex was named the 2021 recipient of the Judy Bark Cup for Most Promising Design Student by BCITO. Alex is most passionate about all aspects of design, and she loves nothing more than creating spaces for people that they truly love. For Alex, design is about bringing happiness, which ties in perfectly with her passion for wellbeing.
